azurefire:
I would like to welcome everyone to the community! At the moment, this is the unofficial That Medieval Thing LiveJournal Community. We are not currently affiliated with the organization, but rather I have created the community independently. Regardless, I would like to welcome all TMT members past and present as well as any who share interests in all things medieval!

Currently, membership is free for all to join. However, posting is by moderator-granted access only. I do apologize for the arrangement, but I feel that it is important. Do not worry, I will be checking the community often for new members, and hope to assign a few new moderators soon as well who will also be able to grant access. I believe we can all be adults here, so that once you are granted access, there will be no need for hand-holding; this community will not be otherwise moderated.

That said, I have but one real rule here: leave your personal grievances at the door. If you have something negative to say, ask yourself this first: is it constructive? If you have a legimate concern that you would like to raise and think that positive results may come of it, please, by all means speak up. But if your only desire is to slander others, then you are not welcome here.

With that out of the way, the purpose for this community is two-fold. I would like to have someone [perhaps not myself, as I am off campus and do not always hear about things in time] to post TMT and TMT-related events and meetings. I also would like to see discussion about medieval life, culture, food, thinking, recreation, sports, history and combat. In other words, if it took place in the part of the world and during the time we like to think of as "medieval," I'd like to hear about it here.

Happy Fun Links for you to put in the journal's "Info" if you like:

http://www.users.drew.edu/dadler/Medieval.html (what, I can't plug my own page?)

Sir Clisto's Tome. Chapter after chapter of EVERYTHING. Good stuff!

The Chronology. A listing of every ruler, of every... uh... everything, that's ever been (ok, so it's probably not TOTALLY complete, but can YOU tell?)

The Holy Roman Empire. Neither Holy, nor all that Roman.

A reasonably decent explanation of noble titles.

Royal Styles, a.k.a. "Damn... he's noble... what the hell do I call him???"

I can provide more (hot DAMN can I provide more), if you want 'em.

It appears that you had this idea about an hour before I did. Well, well done. :-D

So then what do we do with two communities? And alas, there's no way to say that to the tune of "Drunken Sailor."

*sings* o/~ What do we do with two LJ gro~ups what do we do with two LJ gro~ups what do we do with two LJ gro~ups earlai in the morn~in o/~ Just don't ask me to come up with the response, cause it would probably have something to do with putting them in bed with the captain's daughter, and that just wouldn't make any sense now, would it?

Very good question, though. One I'm not prepared to answer at this time. *zooms!*

I had the same idea as well. We should vote on which one we want, or we can just keep all of them. And I'll make sure this community gets updated with Club info and stuff.

I certainly wouldn't mind if all three become quite active. I think it would be rather appropriate, actually. And I don't mind if this particular one becomes the "official" one or if it remains unofficial. It's all good to me.
